Below is a list of our frequently asked questions about the WeldEye Welding Management software, sorted by category. This list is updated regularly, so please check back when you need to. If you cannot find the answer to your question here, please contact us via our dedicated support email: support@weldindustry.com

WeldEye from Weldindustry helps you improve efficiency and control in all stages of your welding project from engineering through fabrication, testing, reporting and final documentation.

General questions

WeldEye Welding Management system can be purchased both as a standard cloud service or as a local installation software. Read more about cloud or local installation here.

WeldEye welding management is suitable for all industries but include functionalities to help ensure welding complies with strict standards and requirements, which is typically used in areas such as the defence industry, the energy, oil and gas industry and also the process industry such as manufacturing Pressure Vessels.

In our experience, these industries would use WeldEye to its full capacity and get the most out of our software,  but anyone involved in the production and manufacturing industry using welders can benefit from installing WeldEye.

Have a look at our references and a list of some of our customers and industries here.

WeldEye Welding Management software include tablet views for welders to report their welds, or NDT operators to report NDT for increased efficiency and control. You can read more about the WeldEye tablet functionality in Welders’ Weldeye.

Yes, on our standard cloud system we invoice only for the amount of logged in users each month (min 3 users). So you can have as many active users as you want in your system but only pay for the ones that have actually logged in to WeldEye each month, reflecting your activity levels at the time.

WeldEye Welding Management includes a module to manage all your welders, brazers and NDT operators, as well as their certificates and renewals. Read more about our PQ module here.

As the WeldEye welding software continues to develop, quick access functions are being added.

For instance, it has a dashboard entry screen that you can personalise.

This allows you to get an immediate and easy overview of the data that is most important to you.

You might want welder certificates with renewal dates or expiry dates, or weld rejects rates, weld repairs, number of welds welded per week/month etc.You can also set up to show NDT results.

Another useful tool is the ability to set up your WeldEye account to send e-mail notifications on a number of items, i.e. your welders’, brazers’ or NDT operators’ certificate expiry dates, or prolongation dates.
You can then decide if you want to see what’s expiring next week, next 2 weeks, or even next month.

You could also set up WeldEye to send you emails with work orders for NDT with welds ready for inspection.

These are just some of the ways we make the WeldEye software work for you – there are further developments in the pipeline, many of them as a result of customer feedback.

You can also check out these ‘Tip of the week’ posts with further shortcuts and handy hints!

There are multiple opinions of what a welding management software package should provide and what functionalities it should include.

Our definition, here at Weldindustry, is a software program that improves your efficiency, profit, control and quality in all stages of your welding projects – from engineering through fabrication, testing, and reporting to final documentation.

It should, in our opinion, include status reports, traceability records, management of WPS, welders and certificates, NDT reporting with access and input control to ensure data correctness and quality.

Others might have different opinions on what makes for a good  welding management software package and we always welcome feedback, so please feel free to contact us here.

Yes. WeldEye (which is using Java) encodes all characters using UTF-8 which includes Chinese and Cyrillic letters. This also has to be supported by the database / data storage. This is used by the data storage in WeldEye Cloud service, however, this has to be verified if you are using a local installation.

Welding procedures

This popup is filtered based on the process(es) you entered in the procedure.

The filtering can be overrided by holding the Shift key while clicking on the popup menu. This will display all registered filler metals.

For the filtering to work correctly, the data in the filler metal wires and filler metal classes popups must be correct. The process entered in the filler metal classes popup must match the processes used in the procedure. Additionally, the filler metal wires must be assigned a class which has the process correctly filled in.

  • Open the welding procedure you want to copy from.
  • In the button row, you have a drop-down menu where you can select what document you want to create. Choose the desired document type (WPS, pWPS, etc) and click “Save As”.
  • The new welding procedure will open with most values already filled in.

Administration

The password requirements of WeldEye 5.0 and above are:

  • At least 8 characters total
  • At least 4 letters
  • Mix of uppercase and lowercase letters
  • At least 2 digits
  • At least one special character (!#-_ etc.)
  • You cannot use your own signature in the password

Make sure you have give the users access to the desired modules.
This can be done in System Administration -> Access Manager.
The user will have to log out and in again for the new access to apply.

  • First, open the user manager and find the user you want to change. Make sure the “Full project Access” is unchecked.
  • Open “Project Administration” -> “Users”
You will see a list of user available to add to this project. These are users which do not have “Full Project Access”.
  • Add the users which you wish to give access to this project.

If you want to add the user to other projects, select a different project and repeat from item two above.

Personnel & qualifications

The Welder Certificate tab will only search for welder certificates (EN287, ISO9606, ASME IX, AWS). If you want to search for other types of certificates (NDT Certificates, brazing certificates or other certificates), you need to select one of the other search tabs. The Certificate tab will search for any type of certificate.

Technical queries

A recent update (KB3038314) for IE11 (and IE9 and IE10) makes IE crash when using the svg-edit sketch tool.

A report of the problem has been made to Microsoft but no response has been received as of now.

A workaround for the time being is to either uninstall the update in questiong (not recommended for security reasons), or use the Chrome web browser instead.

The browser compatibility warning is displayed when WeldEye detects that your browser version is outside the officially supported browser versions.

This can happen for two reasons:

  •  Your browser version is actually not supported – you should upgrade or install a supported browser.
  •  Your browser(Internet Explorer only) is running in “Compability View” mode – check your browser to see if it runs in this mode and turn it off if it does. WeldEye should not be run in compatibility mode.

See Microsofts documentation for more information: How to use Compatibility View in Internet Explorer

Alternative documentation is here – view this page for more information

For IE11 you have to use the Tools button(Gear icon) and select Compatiblity View settings.

Make sure that the WeldEye website has not been added to the list, or if you access a WeldEye server on your intranet, make sure that the “Display intranet sites in Compatibility View” is disabled.

You may require assistance from you local IT support for some of these changes, depending on your company’s IT policy.

  • WeldEye version older than 5.8.46 will also display this warning if used with IE11. This is not a real problem, and you can still use WeldEye. However, you should request a WeldEye upgrade from Weldindustry AS.

The Java-based sketch tool is only tested for Java 1.7.0 update 25, and newer versions will not work properly, or at all.

There are alternative solutions to this problem:

1) Download a previous Java version (available from here: Java Download )

To downgrade, you need to first uninstall the currently installed Java first. Open the Windows Control Panel, select “Programs” or “Uninstall a program”, select the Java version to uninstall from the list of installed programs (there may be more than one installed at a time). You then may have to reboot, if the system asks you to – do so. After the reboot, install the downloaded version, or go to the website and install it directly from it.

 2) Use the new sketch tool that does not require Java, the Svg Editor. This is available as an option in drop down in the sketch area, when no sketch has been added to the document.

If there is a sketch attached to the document, you first have to press the “Convert” button in the sketch area. The sketch will then be converted to SVG, and can then be opened in the svg editor.

3) With Java 1.8 and higher, you can use the Java site Exception List to override the security block.

Steps to Add URLs to the Exception Site list

  • Go to the Java Control Panel (On Windows Click Start and then Configure Java)
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click on the Edit Site List button
  • Click Add in the Exception Site List window
  • Click in the empty field under the Location field to enter the URL
  • Click OK to save the URL that you entered
  • Click Continue on the Security Warning dialog

4) For java 1.7 update 45, you can also change the security settings of Java to allow the sketch editor to run. Open the Java control panel, select the Security tab, and change the slider to “Medium”. Click OK to close the control panel.

The sketching tool wont display. What’s up with that?

There are several possible problems related to this.

  • Using Java 1.7 update 20 or newer, you are unable to open the editor. Try double-clicking on the sketch area. This should open the editor.
  • The Java Virtual Machine (JM) may be disabled in your Internet Explorer. Go to the Tools menu, choose Internet Options, select the Advanced tab, scroll to ‘Microsoft VM’ and enable the ‘JIT Compiler…’ option.
If you don’t have this option in your list, look for ‘Java (Sun)’ instead, and enable the ‘Use Java…’ option.
If neither of these options are present, see point 4 below.
  • Your Internet Explorer may have a security setting which disables the required functionality.
Go to the Tools menu, choose Internet Options, select the Security tab, select Internet and click Custom Level.
In the list now presented to you, scroll almost all the way to the bottom, you will see an option “Scripting of Java Applets”. This option must be enabled. Click OK and OK to close the windows.
  • You may need to install the Java JRE on your computer. This may be downloaded from java.sun.com. Read the agreement and choose your download based on which operation system you are using.
  • If your company is using a proxy server to access the Internet, your browser must be set up accordingly. (Consult your network administrator before changing any Internet Explorer settings!)
  • Although it seems you can access the Internet fine, certain versions of the Java plugin requires that you manually enters your proxy settings in Explorer.
  • Check theese settings:
    • the “Tools” menu -> Internet options -> the “Connections” tab -> LAN settings : The “Use a proxy server…” fields must be activated and filled in.

(Versions of Java known to have this problem: * 1.4.2_02, 1.4.2_04, 1.4.2_06 (Windows XP)

This may be caused by Internet Explorer not loading the newest version of all necessary files from WeldEye each time.

To resolve this you may do one of the following until it works:

  • Right click the work area and select “Refresh”
  • Click the orange WeldEye logo in the top left corner, or click the browsers refresh icon
  • Alternatively, go to the Tools menu -> select “Internet options”.
On the General tab, under “Browsing history”, click “Delete”. Make sure that only “Temporary Internet files” are checked and click “Delete”.
  • Close all dialog boxes to return to the browser window, and reload the page.

Problem:

Changing a project does not work. When changing the project, you should get a confirmation message when the project has successfully been changed, but this does not happen.

Solution:

To fix this problem, you need to clear your internet browser cache(Delete Temporary Internet Files). How to do this is described here (How to do this in Internet Explorer (IE) 9 and IE 8 is described in section 1.6 and 1.7)

Copying a welding procedure(WPS, WPQR, etc) is easy with WeldEye®.

  • Open the WPS, WPQR, pWPS, etc. you want to copy from.
  • In the button row, you have a drop-down menu where you can select what document you want to create. Choose the desired document type (WPS, WPQR/PQR, pWPS, etc), check the additional pages of the procedure you want to copy, and click “Save As”.
  • The new WPS, WPQR, pWPS, WPT or WI will open with most values already filled in.
